Reference for fields in the Create / Edit KPI drawer.
General
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|
| Name | Yes | Unique KPI name |
| Description | Yes | What this KPI measures |
| Service | Yes | Service from the catalog (select or type to create a value) |
| Groups | No | One or more KPI groups for dashboard organization |
| Precision | No | Decimal places for uptime (1–4). Changing precision adjusts default Target Uptime and Color Thresholds |
| Date Range Preset | No | Default period for dashboard/automatic calculation: Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This month so far, Last month, This year so far, Last year |
| Target Uptime | No | SLA target percentage (90% to max based on precision, e.g. 99.9% at 1 decimal) |
| Status | No | active (included in calculations and license count) or inactive |
Calculation
| Field | Description |
|---|
| Calculation Method | Time-based — uptime from alert duration; Count-based — uptime from alert counts |
| Weight by Severity | When enabled, each severity level contributes a configurable weight (0–100%) to downtime |
| Severity Weights | Sliders per severity (shown when Weight by Severity is on). 0% = no impact, 100% = full impact |
Alert filters
Only alerts matching Service and the filters below affect uptime.
| Field | Description |
|---|
| Severity Filter | Severities that count toward downtime (multi-select) |
| Status Filter | Statuses that count (multi-select; default includes open) |
| Environment Filter | Whitelist or Blacklist mode plus environment values (type and select) |
| Resource Filter | Whitelist or Blacklist mode plus resource values |
Empty environment or resource lists mean no extra restriction on that dimension (all values allowed unless blacklisted).
| Mode | Meaning |
|---|
| Whitelist | Only listed values affect uptime |
| Blacklist | Listed values are excluded from uptime impact |
Display
| Field | Description |
|---|
| Color Thresholds | Uptime percentage breakpoints with color and label. When uptime falls below a threshold, dashboard and calculate views use that color. Use Add Threshold to add rows; at least one threshold is required |
| Calculation Summary | Read-only preview of method, service, filters, and weights |
Default values (new KPI)
| Setting | Default |
|---|
| Severities | critical, major, warning |
| Statuses | open |
| Environment / Resource | Empty (no list filter) |
| Target Uptime | Matches precision (e.g. 99.9%) |
| Date Range Preset | This year so far |
| Calculation Method | Time-based |
| Weight by Severity | Off |
| Color Thresholds | Critical and Warning below target |
| Status | active |
Best practices
- Match Precision to your SLA reporting — regulatory reports often need two or three decimal places.
- Align Date Range Preset with how executives read the KPI Dashboard.
- Document whitelist/blacklist intent in Description when filters are non-obvious.
- Tune Severity Weights only when time-based math should treat minor alerts as partial downtime.
- Keep Color Thresholds aligned with Target Uptime so operators see yellow/red before missing SLA.
